What is Active Living?
Activin Living La Crescent works to make active lifestyles possible through environmental, policy and infrastructure change. Our goal is to make our community more walkable and bikeable for all who live and work here.
Active Living is a way of life that integrates physical activity into daily routines. The goal is for adults to accumulate at least 30 minutes of activity each day. Individuals may achieve this by walking or biking for transportation, exercise or pleasure, playing in the park, working in the yard, taking the stairs. Kids need even more activity time - 60 minutes is ideal.
The need for Active Living:
- About 75 million adults, or 25% of the adult population, are now obese; which represents a doubling of the rate since 1980.
- We have never had an epidemic like this before. Click here to see how the rates have increased over the years.
- With the rise in rates of obesity in children, we are seeing more children and adolescent develop health problems that previously were not seen typically until adulthood.

For the Health of it: Building a Daily Habit
- People live longer and healthier with increased physical activity.
- Kids need 60 active minutes a day while adults need 30 to prevent disease & promote health.
- Avoid inactivity – Some is better than none. More is better than something.
How can we live actively in La Crescent?
Many of La Crescent's neighborhoods have sidewalks, which makes it easy to walk into town, to our friends' homes, to the library, ect. Riding your bike is another great option for short errands, getting to the parks and pool, or taking our kids to school. If every person strove to do one trip a week via active transporation, i.e. walking, biking, or public transit, imagine the impact we could have on the environment, community and our personal health.
