Lifelong Fitness Coalition
Mission: To provide lifelong fitness opportunities to youth and the community to increase health.
Vision: Everyone will be active, fit, and healthy.
In 2010, Active Living La Crescent developed partnerships with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater La Crosse, the La Crescent-Hokah School District and La Crescent-Hokah Community Education to form the Lifelong Fitness Coalition. At a time when obesity and diabetes rates in Minnesota are climbing, the coalition wanted to provide lifelong opportunities for La Crescent Community members that would increase their overall health. The goal is to build exposure and skill development to youth and the community.
In 2011, ISD 300 was awarded a Statewide Health Improvement Program grant. That money was used to purchase 32 pairs of snowshoes that are used by the school district students during the day, Boys & Girls Club participants after school, and the general public through community education on weekends. The coalition is working to include bicycles, cross-country skis, and in-line skates.
In December 2012, the Coalition voted to make the purchase of a fleet of 40 bicycles. A portion of the funds needed to purchase the fleet will be provided from Active Living La Crescent. The remaining funds will come from the money raised at the Middle School 5k Fun Run/Walk last spring and the 5k that will again take place coming up this spring on June 5, 2013.

On May 25, 2012 the Coalition and the La Crecent Middle School put on the first annual 5k Fun Run/Walk. Money raised is going towards purchasing a fleet of 40 bicycles to be shared throughout the community. It was a great success and over $4500 was raised!
